That was pretty bad. Can't sugar coat that particular loss. |

Leafs went awhile without a shot before the empty netter too
seemed like they spent a lot of the night trying to get too much out of their possessions, when simpler plays would have been more effective |

AS far as I'm concerned Matthews needs to pull the rag from his butt....he can be a lot better and for 11M a year he should be playing his butt off every minute of every game...not good enough for someone who said a few years back that he wanted to be the best and what the heck is wrong with Reilly, just doesn't have it this year |

here is a wild idea
separate Matthews and nylander
and someone drive the puck to the FN net.

Well not going to complain Shore was picked up and is gone and happy to see Marincrap back down in the AHL where he belongs too. Petan isn't going to be missed too much there either end of the day.
Getting Marner back is good just hope he is really healed up well. High sprains are a pain in the ass.
Overall I think they better come out and show some hunger and determination tonight. Don't try to be too fancy and skilled and cute, forget the damn blind drop passes. Be smarter with the passing to avoid the turnovers.
Still needs to be some tweaks here to the roster but that is on Dubas to find and make smart hockey trades. Still falls on the guys on the ice to show up and win regardless so....
Fingers crossed here. And hoping the rumor is true Freddy going again because sorry Hutch will just get utterly lit up and everyone damn well knows it. |

optically - part of the reason to play Andersen again tonight is to cover Dubas' back side here... they pretty much know that Hutch will give up 4-5 a night... and they have to stop losing - IF there's any hope of climbing back into a playoff spot.
Dubas doesn't have the Babcock crutch anymore regarding the Backup situation...
just imagine Hutch getting lit up at home - Kadri scores a couple or something like that...
I hope they have a camera on Dubas most of the night tonight

I would hope that they lean toward starting Andersen tonight, the players owe it to him after quitting on him last night.. |

I'm guessing that Andersen will play tonight... if Hutch craters tonight, Dubas would melt under the spotlight.
but the post game "preaching session" would be hilarious |

its actually a practical suggestion... that way he has an excuse for not getting near the boards.

I would be nervous to put Willy at centre. If he struggles with his d zone responsibilities as a winger, centre might be too much for him. |

So dubas has to cut down to 21 players; right before a 4-game western road trip.
Way to aggressive on leveraging roster space to create a top heavy cap team. It doesn’t make sense. For that strategy to work, you need a deep roster with a lot of mid-high cap hits; not top heavy with poop at the bottom.
And to boot, it creates a situation where he has zero cap flexibility. Flexibility is so important to be able to manage the ebbs and flows of a fluid season; e.g. hutch. Or is the only he learned from lou that is ok to play your starting goalie for 75 games?

He needed to make trade to get rid of significant salary. Willy has produced to the point this season where he could probably get a reasonable return. It's time, and it's hard to see any other guy they could trade that would make a difference. |
